Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides freshly prepared meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life challenging illnesses. Our team of fifty employees and thousands of volunteers deliver meals and hope to the doors of people living in the District of Columbia and fourteen counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.
We seek an Executive Chef to manage all kitchen operations, from our home delivered meals to our groceries program, and to foster a welcoming environment for our many volunteers. The Executive Chef will supervise and schedule an accomplished team of three chefs, five dedicated support personnel, and dozens of eager volunteers. In collaboration with our registered dietitians, the Executive Chef will craft menus that meet the health needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, renal failure, and other medical conditions. Additionally the Executive Chef will be responsible for managing the kitchen budget, ordering food and supplies, managing several vendor relationships, and ensuring that sanitary conditions are upheld at all times. During holidays and special events, the Executive Chef will take center stage, providing interviews to the media and interacting with VIPs and major donors. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced chef and manager to apply his/her culinary talent and creativity to meeting the life saving nutrition needs of friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
The successful candidate will possess at least five years of broad culinary experience, two years of advanced supervisory experience, and a passion for serving a community of people in need. Diploma from a culinary academy preferred. Additional requirements include a valid food handler's license, the ability to work calmly under pressure, excellent communication skills, and an appreciation for diversity. The position requires hands-on staff supervision, regular interaction with volunteers, and high volume culinary output. Job offer contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
